Sophie Hall

Sophie strives to evoke “playtime” through the pieces by setting up procedures that must be completed before the work can be fully understood. She is also fascinated with the definition of existence and likes to challenge what it means to be human. She's interested in human nature as well as the simple realities of everyday life. She has an urge to understand society and likes to focus on themes of communication in the work. She wants to develop ideas for communal design that connects people together. Aesthetically, the work is often contradictory – a mixture of precise forms and expressive, rogue marks or shapes. She is passionate about combining these two areas of visual language in order to produce striking contrasts.
